Highly Absorbent Nonwoven Fabrics: Self-Healing for Waterproofing
Self-Healing Fabrics for Waterproofing Applications
Our superabsorbent needlepunch/fleece nonwoven fabrics, provide a thin, cost-effective extra layer of protection against below grade water entry in structural waterproofing applications. They contain Super Absorbent Fibres (SAF™) which allows them to self-heal/water-block should they be exposed to water.
When adhered to an HDPE waterproof layer, they provide a Super Absorbent Type A solution. Should the HDPE waterproof membrane be breached, the SAF™ will swell upon contact with groundwater and black further water from entering the structure.
Our fabrics are already being used in such absorbent structural waterproofing products that are compliant to BS8102. They can also be used in products that need to satisfy BS 8485 to protect against the penetration of ground gases, specifically methane, CO2 and radon.
We can achieve fabrics with up to 80% SAF™ content and have a catalogue of fabrics readily available to sample – you can browse these below.
Bespoke fabrics can also be manufactured if required.
So, what is SAF™?
SAF™ is a highly technical, soft, staple fibre, that absorbs significant amounts quickly. In fact, it can take in up to two
hundred times its own weight in water, even under load!! It also provides excellent levels of containment and retention, which can be hugely beneficial in a wide range of applications. We blend SAF™ with a wide range of other fibre types, to produce high performing superabsorbent fabrics and yarns that are all Powered by SAFology™.
