Technical
A. SAF™ is based on Polyacrylate chemistry and is manufactured using a similar process to that of Super Absorbent Powders/Polymers (SAP). For further information, please Send us a message
A. The standard decitex of SAF™ is 10. Different decitex would be considered where commercially viable. For further information, please Send us a message
A. The fibre is manufactured at lengths of 6mm, 52mm and 80mm. Different lengths would be considered where commercially viable. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ does not melt. It will begin to break down when exposed to temperatures above 230°C. For further information, please Send us a message
A. Once the fibre has been formed it cannot be reprocessed. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ is designed to absorb water not odour. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please Send us a message info@exploreSAF.com
A. SAF™ can limit bacterial growth/slow its development due to its ability to absorb and retain water. However, it is not specifically anti-bacterial. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please email info@exploreSAF.com
A. SAF™ can limit mould growth due to its ability to absorb and retain water. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ is only available in white in fibrous form – this is the colour that most applications demand of such a fibre. However, the fibres can be mixed with coloured components when converted into fabrics and yarns. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ is not biodegradable. For further information, please Send us a message
Absorbing
SAF™ absorbs significantly faster than other superabsorbents – reaching saturation in a matter of seconds. For further information, please Send us a message
A. Due to its fibrous nature, SAF™ has a very high surface area allowing it to rapidly take in liquid. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ will absorb water and similar liquids, but not oils. SAF™ is actually commercially used in the removal of water from oils and fuels. However, SAF™ could be combined with other oil absorbing fibres within a final fabric construction. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please Send us a message
Reusability
A. Yes. However, final product construction will have an impact on this and so it is advised that customers undertake their own trials. We do have a washable/reusable fabric range. For further information, please Send us a message
A. Yes this is possible when integrated within a final fabric. However, final product construction will have an impact on this. We have developed a range of SAF™ washable fabrics which are ideal for a wide range of applications. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ likes to lock away and retain absorbed fluid, which is a key benefit in many applications. Of course this does mean that, like all superabsorbents, drying time for SAF™ is longer than for non-superabsorbent products. Heat can be applied to speed up this process and fabrics can also be designed with a lower SAF™ content. For further information, please Send us a message
A. SAF™ performance should not be significantly impacted by re-use, although this does depend on the types of fluid applied and drying methods used. When used within a fabric, a slight difference may be noticed due to the re-orientation of the fibres within the construction. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please Send us a message
Fabrics
A. Yes, we can supply a wide range of fabrics – including Airlaid, Needlepunch, Thermobond and netting – from 20-1,000gsm. For more information, please Send us a message
A. Yes some of our fabrics have been designed to be washed and re-used. Our SAF™ washable fabrics are ideal for a wide range of applications. For further information, please Send us a message
Yarns
A. Yes, we can supply a wide range of spun SAF™ spun yarns. For more information, please Send us a message
A. Our yarns are mainly used for protection within power or fibre optic cables. They absorb water should the cable get damaged. However, the yarns can be used within many other applications where moisture management is required. For more information Send us a message
A. We already manufacture a range of netting fabrics from our yarns. It is advised that customers undertake their own trials to quantify this within their end product format. For further information, please Send us a message
Horticulture
A. Yes, this is possible. Please note that SAF™ may not be suitable for use with sodium sensitive plants. For further information, please Send us a message
A. This is possible but would need exploring further by individuals looking at such applications. For further information, please Send us a message
